Create a web template
A template is a document 'teacher' to be defined in an easy on our website. We will by parties to better understand it?
Imagine you are creating a new Web design, we are creating the first document of the index.htm page.
As we've seen in previous tutorials .. we will insert tables, creating the graphic design web buttons inserted with their effects (buttons with rollovers) logo, image title, footer, etc. .. etc. ..
In the head, we have inserted links and goals and we need ... is ready to upload to the server and then start creating pages the following documents as friends, resources, and all the options that we thought we need.
Be more or less like this:
Of course, this will be the design of the entire Web, or the majority of documents that we will create. So instead of saving it as index, we will do as a project, or design, (no matter ñ use it will not use it on the network)
I keeps such proyectoweb.htm. Later I'll leave it in a folder where I have all the original documents, if one day think of a red herring and I have to fix it ![]()
With this document open go to: File / Save as Template

It will bring up a dialog box where we put a name to save:

We asked if we update the links .. and tell you so.
In the right column, where we see the Site for your folders and documents, we see that we have created a new folder, Templates, and within this the template you just created. Check that the extension is. Dwt:

Do not remove the templates from the Templates folder or keep it non-template files, ie anything that has no extension,. Dwt. Nor should we move the Templates folder of the local root folder. (Portfolio Site)
If we do will fail routes templates and all work will have been useless. We have created our first team. But we're not done yet. So far we have kept the portal structure with three cells:

But if we remove the right column:

Once you have selected, press the Delete arrow and remove.
Or ... we see that we should add a row in the table menus, as it happened to me I had forgotten to put the link to Home. One way to add rows and columns is from Modify:

And from here we can add both rows and columns, above or below where we have the mouse cursor:

Once we get to our taste the document follow. With the cursor in the cell where the contents will be: Go to Insert / Object Template:

a window for us to name this editable region:

In the document, we see a box

Before storage, we can expand the Contents box until it covers the entire space, most of all for providing after work to insert the contents and even could delete the text:

Now if you just, we will save the template and close it. As I said, must be in the Templates folder, which is created when creating the template in this folder there should be no other files, only if we create more templates for this site, will be stored there.
Now whenever we create a new document for this site, we will revise this template, go to File / New ...

And we accept. We now have a new document

In the upper right, we see that we are using the correct template:

And it's time to start creating the first document, not as you shall be, but with the mess I have in the server showing examples, statutes, before and after ... it is best to create a folder within the site, not stepping on any other document that already has created. I create a folder called portal, within it, and keeps all documents created from the template of the site:

I look for this new folder 'portal' and save it as index.
We have made the index. Then we'll do the rest, the friends page, to put the banners of our friends, with their addresses, tutorials, etc, etc ...
All with the same process: New from Template 'My First Site' 'ejemplo_web' in my case. Or, keeping this document, since we have not yet content ... with the corresponding name to end all menu options. By the way ... remember if you created links to create buttons, to work well, we must keep the documents with the same names ![]()
If you do not remember, one trick is to look in the code ![]()

And you saw all that before had different colors in the code, now, except the area or region editable (Content) is of a gray color, in design view, if we change an image .. the cursor becomes a prohibited sign! All is well so, we have all the protected design ![]()
If you ever need to update a link, or change an image, add a link, etc. ... Go to File / Open and find the Templates folder, or from the right panel

open the template and modify it as necessary, then save it, then ask us if we want to update all documents created from it:

We say yes, because if we have another design with other content ... we will have made another template, since in one place can create multiple templates. And only affect what we have changed, obviously we will not touch at all the editable regions to the contents and we would load too ... It's just about what the documents can not change, everything in the documents, and leaves us we get the forbidden sign.
We see a window depending on how many files you have on the site more or less rapid wrath, in the end you will see a dialog that shows the following:

If a document had not updated, we would say. Closed and all set! Using the templates, we save a lot of work, since we have only created a single document and the, other, that by modifying the template and update all the other ... is work that we will avoid ...
And you will see that it is not difficult. Just a little practice ![]()
And if the first does not come out, it even more that we delete the Templates folder as the document is ready and we saved, start again and for sure this time if you will!
See now my Portal Here
Create now your portal template and create the pages as you want to insert into as friends pages, contact, tutorials, etc, etc ... Remember that if the create buttons when we made the substitution of images, and put the link to a title This must be the same.
Not to have put them, you can also create and link in the Property inspector as to another document or file.
